Variations on Cord-Cutting Rituals

Hello dear friends!

I had an incredible experience with a cord-cutting ceremony this past week, for Samhain. I felt called to release ties, but in a slightly different way from most cord-cuttings. As I sat and watched the cord burn and the candles dwindle, I felt like an old chapter had finally closed and a new one had begun.

This was no ordinary cord-cutting, and I want to share why...

Cord-cutting rituals are some of the most common things I practice these days, to help people find emotional freedom from unhealthy relationships, past relationships, and other connections. This powerful spellwork can produce not only immediate results but shift the energy field over time into a place of empowerment and sovereignty.

Most people think of cord-cutting spells only in the context of relationships with other people. I most often facilitate these after breakups/divorces, and sometimes between parents and children, past friends, and other interpersonal connections that have ended or changed dramatically.

But this isn’t the only way to use cord-cutting or cord-burning rituals! It’s just the beginning, actually!

This is a wonderfully versatile ritual, that you can customize to a lot of different situations. If you have been curious about cord-cutting, or have recently purchased a cord-cutting ritual kit, here are some other fun ways to use this magic:

1. Cut cords to physical places

Many of us have had difficult or traumatic experiences within specific physical spaces. And even though it’s not talked about often, I do believe that we can form cords to these places. One way to know that you have a cord or energy connection to a place is if it shows up in your dreams a lot. You may also find yourself absentmindedly driving past it, scrolling through pictures of it, or seeing the name pop up repeatedly.

I personally have used cord-cutting for my elementary school, high school, and childhood home. Spaces hold energy too, and this may be a helpful piece in healing from past trauma.

2. Cut cords to unhealthy habits

Remember that everything is energy. Your thought patterns, limiting beliefs, and habits are just cycles of energy. And you can cut cords to these too! I’ve most often used this strategy for habits that I wanted to break, like sugar addiction, sleeping too late, too much social media, etc.

Unlike cord-cutting for relationships or even for places, you CAN cut cords to more than one habit or thought pattern at a time.

3. Cut cords to ancestral curses/trauma

There are many ways to go about healing ancestral trauma or wounds, but cord-cutting can be one great addition to that journey. If you have clearly identified a piece of energy that you have been carrying, from your lineage, you can target that during the ritual.

Some examples of generational or ancestral curses would include: infertility, unexplained health problems, money issues, business struggles, or other kinds of “bad luck” that may seem to continually follow you. (I may also suggest a “return to sender” ritual/spell for this, but it does make for a creative cord-cutting too!)

4. Cut cords with those in the spirit realm

While we most often want to cut ties with people who are still living, it is possible to do this with people who have crossed over. I believe this offers a beautiful chance for healing, for those who weren’t able to do cord-cutting while that person was still alive.

If you still feel bothered by someone’s energy even from the spirit realm, you can cut the cords with them through the veil. It’s pretty similar to a standard cord-cutting, and can bring great relief and even a kind of reconciliation of souls. You can also use this for ghosts or spirits you feel are haunting your space, although I might also use a banishing spell!

For those searching for cord-cutting spells, cord-cutting ceremonies, cord-cutting candles, and the like, I hope this blog offers some new perspectives on how to use this powerful magic.

Have you done a cord-cutting ritual? Have you cut ties with anything other than a living person? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

In the meantime,

~ Take care and be well ~
